Most frequent questions and answers
NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) is India’s national-level entrance exam for admission to B.Arch programs. It tests drawing skills, aesthetic sensitivity, and logical reasoning through two parts: Drawing Test and Aptitude Test. Conducted by COA (Council of Architecture), it’s mandatory for architecture admissions in most Indian colleges.
NATA & JEE both are exam conducted in India for admitting students into architecture colleges, Difference between both the exams are JEE mains paper 2 is conducted by MHRD ( Ministry of Human resource and Development ) while NATA is conducted by COA ( Council of Architecture – India ). NATA syllabus and JEE syllabus varies by 30%. NATA has 3 drawing questions to be answered and the syllabus contains PCM ( Physics, Chemistry & Math ) apart from Architectural aptitude & Logical Reasoning. While JEE Mains paper 2 has Two Drawing questions with 25 Math Questions, Architectural Aptitude & Reasoning visualization Questions.
With dedicated effort, NATA preparation typically takes 3-6 months. For focused students, our 150-hour crash course condenses preparation into 4-8 weeks. Daily 2-3 hours of smart study with quality material can ensure success.
JEE Main Paper 2 and NATA are both architecture entrance exams, but cater to different institutions. JEE Main Paper 2 scores are used for admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs offering B.Arch programs. NATA scores are primarily used by private and some government architecture colleges across India. While both assess drawing, aptitude, and sometimes math, their weightage and focus may vary. JEE Main Paper 2 often includes a broader range of math and aptitude questions, while NATA emphasizes visual perception and design sensitivity. Therefore, your choice of exam depends on the specific architecture colleges you’re targeting.
Qualifying marks for NATA would be based on the following rules:
- A minimum of 20 marks in Part A
- A minimum of 30 marks in Part A
- Overall qualifying marks for NATA is 70 marks out of 200 marks.
Candidate will not qualify in NATA unless he/she satisfies all three conditions mentioned above.
Part A – Drawing and Composition Test – Offline mode ( 1.5 hrs., 80 marks)
A1 – 1 Question – Composition & Color – 25 marks
A2 – 1 Question – Sketching & Composition (Black & White) – 25 marks
A3 – 1 Question – 3D composition – 30 marks
Total 3 Question – 80 marks
Part B- MCQ and NCQ – Computer Based Adaptive Test 90 minutes (108 second for each question) 120 marks)
B1 – 42 Questions – MCQ
B2 – 08 Questions – NCQ
Total 50 questions – 120 marks
Grand Total Marks (Part A + Part B) = 200
